In addition to the availability and demand of RVs, we’ll consider the variety of local activities in each area, including walking and cycling trails and the number of beaches and lakes, increasing the appeal for those seeking relaxation or water sports.

Kent is the number one county to visit in your campervan this summer

Kent ranks first with an RV score of 7.72 out of 10. Areas where Kent ranked highly include the demand for RVs here, with 12,470 searches for “campervan hire Kent” in the last 12 months. There is lots to see and do in Kent, with 257 attractions per 100 square miles. Kent has 56 beaches, including Margate, Whitstable, and Broadstairs, and 4.5 motorhome campsites per 100 square miles.
2. East Sussex, RV score: 7.41/10
Placed second, East Sussex has an RV score of 7.41 out of 10. It has plenty of things to do, with 242 attractions per 100 square miles, including stunning coastline, rolling countryside, and many historic sites. It also has 6.5 motorhome parks per 100 square miles and 73 walking trails per 100 square miles alongside 6 different lakes.
3. Surrey, RV score: 7.18/10
Surrey is just behind in third place, with a score of 7.18 out of 10. Surrey’s high score is due to its large number of cycling trails, with 57.2 per 100 square miles, more than anywhere else. It also has the second-highest number of walking trails, 140 per 100 square miles and the third-highest number of RV listings within 50 miles (455).

If you’re going to be taking an RV trip, you need somewhere to park it. Most regular campsites aren’t set up to welcome motorhomes, so it’s something you need to check when planning your trip. Cornwall has the UK’s most motorhome parks, with 203 in total.
Cheshire, RV listings within 50 miles: 459
If you’re looking to rent an RV rather than buy one, Cheshire is the county with the most rental RVs. Cheshire has just over 450 listings within 50 miles of the county.

Google searches are a strong indicator of demand, and for this, locals in Cornwall lead the way. Over the last year, there were around 14,280 searches for campervan hire in the county, more than anywhere else.
Isle of Wight, things to do per 100 square miles: 294
Whether you just want to relax by the beach or explore a bit of local history, there are many things to see and do on your RV holiday if you choose the Isle of Wight. The island has 294 attractions per 100 square miles, including the Needles, Osborne House, and 39 beaches.
Hertfordshire, trails per 100 square miles: 163

Unsurprisingly, given that it’s the home of the Lake District, Cumbria is the county with the most lakes, with 21 in total. The region’s lakes, also called “meres” or “waters”, provide a calming and scenic backdrop for various outdoor activities, from hiking and cycling to boating and fishing.
The data used in our study is accurate as of April 2024.
We looked at all English ceremonial counties for which data was available, excluding metropolitan counties, Greater London, and the City of Bristol, due to these primarily being urban areas less likely to be visited on an RV holiday.
Each county was analysed on the following factors, and a normalised score out of 10 for each factor was given before an average of these was taken.

RV listings: The number of listings within 50 miles of the county on Goboony as of April 16th, 2024.
Search demand: The number of searches in the UK for “campervan hire”, followed by the county’s name, between April 2023 and March 2024 was sourced using Google Ads Keyword Planner.
