My name is Emma and I work as an administrator on a farm. I currently live with my partner (who also has a little van like mine), and I have three daughters with my youngest still living with me.
That’s not it though, I also have one big Labrador who goes everywhere with me, Fred, and three very old terriers who I do occasionally take out for a walk. I take all four of them out in the cage, that’s another reason I’ve wanted to buy a larger vehicle, because I like to take them to my sister’s farm.
An interesting fact about me is that while I have a career as an agriculturalist, I actually have a degree in archaeology. Around four years ago I went to university and finished my degree as a mature student. I’ve been lucky to travel to a dig site in Turkey, where we looked at how farming practices started in 4000 BC. That was really interesting!
My credit history is fine but I’ve recently been widowed, so for the first time in my life I’ve had to get credit on my own and I needed a new van as my car had recently blown up.
My search for van finance was super easy. I received help from a guy called Jack, who I’ve dealt with previously. He recommended Moneybarn because he knew their process was simple.
After discussing my options, the finance came through from Moneybarn. Once I agreed and received all of the paperwork, I signed my agreement via e-Sign, which was great because I work from home.
It is very difficult for me to print paperwork out, sign it and scan it back. So e-Sign made the process very easy. I would highly recommend it if you’re someone who requires vehicle finance but you don’t have the facilities to be able to print things off. I’ve never done it before, but the signing was very convenient; I was quite impressed.

My vehicle is very important for getting to and from work, as I live over 20 miles away from where I work. I am not mechanically minded, so it’s imperative that my vehicle is easy to start, easy to use, easy to maintain and not expensive to run, particularly in MPG. Plus, I work on a farm so it has to be more robust than a little vehicle, which is one of the reasons I chose a van.
And although cars are a lovely idea, they don’t fare very well with the mud, snow and ice. So, I knew I wanted a van, a little van (which can be difficult to find!)
I had been looking for a van for ages, but I just got pushed into it quicker because my car blew up and I needed a vehicle to get to and from work.
I knew I wanted a Ford Transit Connect because I’d driven one before and loved it. It was the right size, and it was good to handle, plus I could sit up high on the road and see the traffic. It was also very fuel efficient. That’s why I wanted a diesel. I wanted to get decent MPG because I have to travel 20 miles to work and back. So I wanted something that was small, easy to use, but was reliable and could do the job I wanted it to do, and it does.
I use a cage to transport the dogs so I can take them for walks. The van is the perfect size for the dog cage and for keeping my work things in, so it suits me fine.

The service I received from Moneybarn was very easy right from the start. I did not feel pressured, I felt like somebody was actually listening to what I had to say. My questions were answered easily and my mind was put at rest.
Alongside this, everybody involved was very professional, and were very particular that I was happy with what I was getting. Moneybarn were very easy to use, everything was straightforward; the whole process worked exactly as discussed. While it was very frightening to try and buy my first real vehicle on my own, it was really quite seamless and everyone involved made it a very easy process.
The van works really well for my family. I am able to help out if they need me to fetch things for them because the vans bigger than their cars. So if they go buying things like pieces of furniture, I can go pick it up and take it to them in their new houses.
It also works well for my hobbies, I go clay pigeon shooting with my partner, and my gun is in a very large case which has to be transported safely. Now the van can fit both of our guns, plus our other gear and the dog cage. So we can quite happily go for a day out with everything we need in there and we can work from it as well.
On top of that I like to go walking, so in my van I keep an extra lead for my dog and different coats and boots, so I don’t have to keep taking them in and out of the house. So that’s been a massive bonus to having the vehicle.
As a thank you to Emma for taking the time to share her story with us, we have sent her some vouchers to enjoy.
